A Life
Description
Description
The strong production team includes Hugh Leonard (playwright), Rupert Chan (translator/adapter), Dominic Cheung (producer) and Jacob Yu (director). The story invites audiences to take a look at the most regrettable issue of a person’s life.
The background to the story is set in Pok Fu Lam in Island South. As we visit with Drumm the old community where he grew up, and witness how he picks through the pieces of his past, we slowly get under the skin of this headstrong yet vulnerable old man.
On learning that he is suffering from a terminal illness, he decides to pay a visit to his friends Mary and Lar, a couple he has known since they were very young but whom he has not spoken to for years. It is followed by a second visit, this time with his wife Dolly. By taking another look at their relationships, Drumm takes stock of his past, or in his own words, tries to “total his sums, to demand an audit to know what he amounts to”. In so doing, he recalls two evenings that have left indelible memories in him: a date with Mary in the park some 40 years ago, and his first public speech.
