The Chalk Circle In China
Description
Description
“The Chalk Circle in China” is adapted from the classic play “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” by iconic dramatist Bertolt Brecht.
The story follows a raging war, which takes place during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) in China. The prince’s consort flees the palace, leaving behind her only son. A lowly servant girl finds him and takes him home to raise him. A few years later, the prince’s consort suddenly turns up and says she wants her son back. But how can we find out who is the real mother? One way is to draw a chalk circle, put the boy in it, and see who can pull him out. But the human tug-of-war could break the child’s arms. Would you have the heart to do it?
