Description

Description

Kwok has invited local artist Lam Tung-pang to serve as a case study for the exhibition, and she highlights Lam’s experiences in developing
his career in order to investigate the relationship between contemporary artists, galleries and collectors. She also showcases “Take Home
and Make Real the Priceless In Your Heart”, a series of paintings of crystals by Liu Ding that the artist has commissioned to his precise
specifications. With his signature – a symbol of value and authority – affixed on the back of each painting, the complete work seemingly
transforms the reproductions into priceless collectibles of a renowned artist and thus invites viewers to reflect on the value of a work of art:
is a collector investing in the work itself or in the future potential of the artist? Also presented in the exhibition is “One Square Foot of Sky” by
foreign investment (FI), a collective initially formed by foreign artists. For this work, they have teamed up with four young Hong Kong artists –
Chris Huen Sin-kan, Kong Wing, Dakuen Leung and Wong Ka-ying – to paint the Hong Kong sky above us into “sky shares”, the value of which
is based on the price of property in the district. FI connects their art with daily life to provide a new criterion for considering the price of art.
Encouraging critical thinking and initiating effective discussions around the value of art, the project adopts a “club membership” approach to
act as an incubator for a committed audience to further their knowledge and engagement. A series of activities will continue to be held during
the exhibition period to stimulate a debate between the curator, the guest speakers, the exhibiting artists and the public on the development
and collection of art.
