The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui

Description

Description

We fear destruction,
but destruction is born of fear.

‘The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui’ has been repeatedly adapted and performed in Europe and America in recent years. What fascination does this fable written by Brecht in 1941 feature in the contemporary era?

Some people compare Arturo Ui, the protagonist, to Trump. Others correlate this story to the current rise of right-wing forces. Will Hitler reappear? Has the age of lure, coercion or even manipulative assassination by gangster power in ‘Cachigo’ emerged?

When gangsters become officials and the public becomes dogs, would we suffer, get fear or is there still hope under the authoritarian politics? In the face of all human weaknesses, could it be possible for man to pursue the ‘ideal’ ideology and call a halt to disasters?
