Victor Fung in Residence – From The Top (Final Edit)
Dance

Description
Description
This June, as part of a two-week residency at Freespace, award-winning Hong Kong choreographer Victor Fung shares a work-in-progress presentation of From The Top (Final Edit), performed by independent local dancers Kenny Leung and Ronny Wong and Jack Sergison and Michael Barnes from the UK.
Exploring the interdependence of choreographers and dancers, From The Top (Final Edit) is a witty and beguiling dance work about the everyday life of dance artists and what it means to make art. Action on stage is juxtaposed with voiceovers and surtitles to reveal the challenges and absurdities of attempting to fulfil a choreographer’s artistic vision, and the need to keep “starting over”.
Based on an earlier work commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2015, From The Top (Final Edit) grew from Victor Fung’s participation in the Clore Leadership Programme in 2016/17 as a Hong Kong Scholar under the mentorship of Wayne McGregor. This residency at Freespace provides a research and development platform for further exploration of the work. The world premiere of the final work will be presented in September 2019 by Swindon Dance, UK.
