Dear Reader

Description

Description

“Dear Reader,” explores the possibilities of reading and put reading, and the role of reader in a brand new perspective through art and text.

Language could be seen as a benchmark of human civilization. Our ancestors invented symbols associated with meaning for recording and communication, people then started to read and write. Reader held the key to unlock meanings behind the text implied by the author. Yet, while the relationship of text, reader and author changes with increasing complexity of language, the essence of reading changes as well. The question comes: are the roles of author and reader clearly distinctive? If words are read as arbitrary symbols, THE absolute meaning behind may not exist. Without absolute consensus, what can readers expect from a text? In that case, how can the role of “reader” be valid? Is there any other possibility?

“Dear Reader,” explores the questions in the role of reader. Through artworks, literature and unique exhibition experience, visitors can fill in the blanks of the following: Reading is ______.
