Description
The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra has been invited to perform in the opening concert of the ‘Festival Hong Kong 2019 – A Cultural Extravaganza@Shanghai’ in Shanghai coming November. As a special treat to the Hong Kong audience, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is going to give a pre-tour performance of the programme selection at the season opening concert. They range from ancient tunes like Song of the General; Follow the Pagoda Tree to Trace the Roots of Our Ancestors by internationally renowned composer Zhao Jiping; golden oldies from film and television series such as a medley made up of household tunes Love Lingers On and A Medley of Themes from Television Drama Series; to new and recent compositions by two talented composers from Hong Kong – Big Tree for eco-huqin and orchestra by Ng Cheuk-yin, and Next Station Moon for four instruments and Chinese orchestra by Ng King-pan. The ‘tree’, as the subject of the former, carries the rich meaning as a testimony of the many historic changes of Hong Kong, one that has gone through the highs and the lows of the city yet is still growing strong and flourishing. The latter is created in anticipation of the moon landing adventure, as we share a culture hot pot of music on the moon theme.
