A Girl Named Mo Chou
Description
Description
In early Ming, Mochou, a maid at the home of Prince Zhongshan, accompanies the young master Xu Cheng when he studies. The two fall in love and are secretly engaged. Grandma Xu tries to arrange Xu Cheng’s marriage with the Prime Minister’s daughter, but Xu Cheng refuses the request. As a punishment, he is confined in his study, and Mochou is imprisoned in the cold room. Three months later, Grandma Xu brings Qiu Caiyun, the daughter of the Prime Minister to their home to become the new bride of Xu Cheng. On the wedding night, Xu Cheng leaves with anger and goes to meet Mochou at the cold room. To calm down Xu Cheng, the new Mrs. Xu – Qiu Caiyun – brings Mochou back to their home. Xu Cheng becomes depressed. Caiyun wants to bring Xu Cheng’s loving thoughts for Mochou to an end. She lures and coerces the imperial doctor to take out the eyes of Mochou and mix them into the medicine for curing Xu Cheng’s depression. Deeply saddened and furious, Mochou kills herself by jumping into the lake. Xu Cheng fails to save Mochou and kills himself for love by doing the same. The couple finds their eternal love by turning into the flowers and leaves of lotus.
