YY9 Gallery is pleased to present “After the Rain”, a solo exhibition of Ling Lai. In this exhibition, Ling continues to explore the vibrancy of colour from her previous series. The artist is obsessed with the unpredictability, personality and organic formation when colors meeting one another. Thinned acrylic paint enables her to express such fluidity freely.
Splashes of color, on Ling’s canvas, undergo a magical reaction as if they drop or stop for a purpose. By applying translucent colors on top and repeating the process multiple times, Ling captures not only the outcome of such reaction but also her mood at the moment of art making. Layers of color then conjure up a blurry imagery like looking through a window on a rainy day or reflecting lights on a rain pool. “After the rain”, Ling intends to achieve a harmonious state and a tonal balance.
