Prime Minister of Six States
The Inauguration of a Prime Minister by Six States is a traditional piece staged at the commencement of a season of Cantonese opera performances. Set in the period of the Warring States (BC 475-221) in China when it was divided into 7 states, Su Qin’s appointment as Prime Minister was a joint initiative in acknowledgment of his successful persuasion of the six states to forge an alliance against the ambitious Qin state, and to give him a grand send-off to his hometown. An opulent presentation, it is symbolic of unity for a common cause and features the entire cast with their distinctive routines performed according to their role-types, and showcases the Troupe’s strength – costumes, martial skills, music, and more.
