Getting jazzy with the classics
The Debussy String Quartet must surely be one of the world’s most versatile classical music ensembles. It gives a huge number of concert hall recitals each year, it has a hit show with acrobats, and its members are highly sought-after academy teachers. With Bach to Jazz the Quartet heads off in a new direction, collaborating with two remarkable jazz musicians to bring a new perspective to works by Debussy, Ravel and JS Bach, in addition to original compositions by Jean-Philippe Collard-Neven. Regularly commissioned to write soundscores by top European movie makers, choreographers and visual artists, multiform pianist, composer and improviser Jean-Philippe Collard-Neven’s work has won major music awards in France as well as in his native Belgium. Jean-Louis Rassinfosse has partnered many jazz greats including Slide Hampton, Clifford Jordan and Philly Joe Jones, and for a decade played and recorded with the legendary Chet Baker.
