With a sweet, soulful voice full of personality, the Catalan singer-songwriter Sílvia Pérez Cruz spins deeply personal stories in her moving songs, drawing upon jazz, flamenco, bolero, fado, Catalan and Galician music, South American folk songs and more.
Born into an artistic family, Pérez Cruz was hugely inspired by her father, a guitarist specialising in habanera songs. As a young adult, she studied piano, saxophone and vocal jazz in the prestigious Taller de Músics and Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona, where she also performed with funk, bossa nova and jazz groups. Career success came with her first recording in 2011、 at a time when her active involvement in composing, arranging and producing achieved wide recognition, she garnered multiple prizes including two Gold Albums with 11 de novembre (2011) and Granada (2014) and two Best Original Songs at the Goya Film Awards in 2013 and 2017. Showcasing her diverse talents, her arresting performances as an actress, singer and composer for the 2015 film At Your Doorstep (Cerca de tu casa) and recent collaboration with flamenco dancer Rocío Molina at Avignon Festival 2018 have both been highly acclaimed.
Having enchanted Europe, this modern-day muse’s Hong Kong debut showcases her personal and powerful storytelling from her latest album, Vestida de Nit. Beyond any single genre, one bare voice and a string quintet unveil naked emotions and caress wounded hearts.
