Description
Tonight’s concert is named for the opening piece by our Composer-in-Residence, played by the Borromeo Quartet and Brett Dean himself. Long fascinated by the viola quintet form and the great works by Mozart, Schubert and Brahms, Dean’s Epitaphs offers an emotionally moving portrait of five of Dean’s friends who passed away. The concert also features our Artistic Director Cho-Liang Lin in the other two pieces of the evening— Mendelssohn’s stunning D-minor Piano Trio, one of his most famous chamber works, and César Franck’s powerful Piano Quintet which represents the turning point between German Romanticism and French Impressionism.
