Heaven on Earth – Do it Yourself
Visual Arts

Description
Description
AVA’s Artist-in-Residence Stephanie Senge is going to showcase her latest artworks made in Hong Kong during her residence in AVA since April 2019.
Stephanie Senge is consumption artist and shops for consumer products at supermarkets worldwide. This makes the capital of consumerism Hong Kong a perfect place for her work. During her two months as artist in residence at AVA, she investigated Hong Kong’s worlds of consumption. A crucial objective of Stephanie Senge’s work is the creation of awareness on what we do when we shop to prevent us from being victimized by mechanisms of power and manipulation.
During her stay, the artist developed consumer fashion for the consumer products that she purchased in Hong Kong. Her first fashion collection is called “Heaven on Earth”.
Naturally, the artist has since a long time also been committed to the theme of plastic. Plastic is an indispensable part of all our daily lives and threatens us as well as the environment.
With love and care Stephanie Senge has dressed the damaging and useful plastic packaging materials in blue batik cotton.
How helpless does our affluence render us? And how much power do we have as strong consumers?
For the exhibition “Heaven on Earth – Do it Yourself” Batik Party the artist has prepared blue batik paint and white cotton scarves for each participant and will show how everyone can create their own Heaven-on-Earth textiles.
