“Hikikomori, The Shelter” by Joris Mathieu with Haut et Court collective (Student Matinee)

Le French May Arts Festival 2019

Description

Description

‘Hikikomori, The shelter’ is a futuristic story about self-identity. The play uses a unique and original sound design that offers audiences three different viewpoints to see and hear one same story.
“Hikikomori” is a modern-age social phenomenon: it literally means withdrawal from others in Japanese. This new social act of reclusion created this story of Nils. This young main character finds difficult to fit into society, so he decides to hide in his room forever. ‘Hikikomori, The Shelter’ not only proposes the ways to be yourself, but also allow audiences experience this interactive performance by headphones. It provides a radically different approach, whereby adults and children can discuss at the end of the show and hear each of their thought.
