The exhibition “Jaffa Lam Laam Collaborative: Weaver”, to be held from 19th Jan to 7th Feb 2013, will display a number of sculptures and installations that highlight the art direction and philosophy of the artist’s participation in various foreign and local exhibition in the past five years. Focusing on a specific kind of interaction between art and the community, the exhibition brings audience a rich backdrop of culture, history, the society and current issues. In the exhibition, Lam collaborates with different local groups and creative personnel, including the Hong Kong Women Workers’ Association and Sun Shing Wooden Box Co.. Lam’s approach to use secondary materials such as, fabric taken from a used umbrella or the wooden planks taken from a crate, criticizes and re-establishes and the role of art in the community. Utilizing the unique space in the Pao Galleries of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Lam is going to provide visitors with a unique visual experience using materials of different forms and textures, and interplay of light and shadow. Behind the physical appearances lies the artist’s reflection of self identity and her opinion on art
