Description
The story is set in Ancient Greece. Dionysus’s father hopes that his son will inherit his incomparable courage to overcome his fear of nature. However Dionysus is overly dependent on his father and had been shy since he was a little boy.
One night, during a massive thunderstorm, Dionysus’s father encounters the God of Death. With his dying breath, he tells Dionysus to leave the mountain alone, pass through the dark forest, and sail across the stormy sea in a small boat, to find a doctor. To save his dying father, Dionysus has no choice but to find his mettle and carry out his father’s instructions. The incident helps Dionysus find the courage to face future challenges and never be afraid again.
The show will be performed in the style of an ancient Greek drama. Some performers will wear masks while others are specially made up. The plot will be presented mainly through the actors’ use of body gestures and voice, along with the choir. Aiming to introduce the audience to the origin and historical development of drama, this programme will also enable the student participants to appreciate a performing art form that they rarely encounter. An educational interactive session will be held after the performance, a chance for the students to try performing behind masks.
