The First Trial: Contempt
Xiqu

Description
Description
The stage of The Trial is an experimental space formed by four mirrors. The concept of the performances comes from Kafka’s novel of the same title. The performance of The Trial includes three new original experimental pieces, Awakening, Cool Wind Whispers and Contempt.
During the process of creating the part of Contempt, 40 questions would be asked. Questions including, What came first, the leaders or the people? What came first, the theatre or the audience? What came first, the revolution or the uproar? What came first, culture or arts? What came first, Hong Kong or China?…What came first, the question or the answer? Nine young Kunqu opera artists would develop a bold and ground-breaking performance, with their own specialties and skills in their own disciplines merging into the theatre space, developing it into the first traditional and contemporary collective theatre creation.
