Triumphant return of a Theatre Libre Award Best Script
Combined with physical theatre, Yan Pat To’s play examines youth’s cruelty and bitterness
Must we compete right on life’s starting line? Does a smooth path ensure an open and easy future for young people?
Yat Sum, Ka Po, Chris, Anthony and Si Yin befriend each other in a study room. Together they survive the harrowing preparation for their A-level. While waiting for the results, they delve into Tarot, Kabbalah and Zodiac predictions. At an overnight camp, they even create Chinese astrology charts and their fates are transformed…
There is a side of the moon that man has not explored. What type of a future awaits these youths? Their experience growing up is an answer to Murakami Haruki’s famous line: “The more one grows, the deeper the wound.”
White Blaze of the Morning is written by the celebrated young playwright Yan Pat To featuring five young actors. It received critical acclaim to sold-out audiences during its premiere in 2015. This re-run in the Black Box Theatre transports us to the core of these young people’s world, where we’ll look unflinchingly at reality — from which no one can escape.
