Description
Description
“Wit”, which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1999, focuses on Dr Bearing, a hard-nosed English literature professor who has dedicated her life to the study of poems about death written by the 17th century English poet John Donne. Bearing is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer and, out of respect for academic research, agrees to undergo eight rounds of experimental chemotherapy treatment at the maximum dosage. Undergoing the treatment, she starts to question whether the factor pushing her towards death is the cancer or the treatment, which is more unpleasant than anything she has ever experienced.
