Association of Hong Kong Dance Organizations

Introduction

Established in 1992, the Association of Hong Kong Dance Organizations is a non-profit making society. As one of the largest dance associations in Hong Kong, it has 120 member organizations and more than 10,000 individual members over the past 20 years. Many of the member organizations have a long history in the local dance scene. The directors of the member organizations are mostly veteran dancers and teachers, who have significant contribution to the Hong Kong dance development.

The objective of the Association is to unite dance organizations in Hong Kong and to promote cultural exchange and collaboration among arts organizations in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas. Since its establishment, the Association has organized more than 2,000 performances reaching over 1 million audiences.

In 1998, the Association put on stage with over 400 dancers, the dance poem Fragrance-A Dance Poem on Hong Kong which revealed the Hong Kong hundred-year long history. The dance poem was produced with the support of the late famous Chinese composer Yip Shun-chi, the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra and over 10 choreographers. Since then, the Association has produced a number of well-received dance poems including The Ignited Hearts: Legend of the Orient (2000), The Golden Silk Road (2004) and Our Home, Our Stories (2006), The Trace of Migrators (2009) and My Homeland (2010), bringing a new breeze to the local dance scene with realistic and introspective stories.
